'twas the night before ...

it's the night before the big trip. the bike all packed, the last minutes hardware goodies are installed. New tires, new shocks, new windscreen. Bags packed and mounted. Route planned. I doubt I'll sleep much tonight, hence I'm writing this now   I'm sure I've forgotten things, hopefuly between the 7 of us riding we have enough for everyone.

The next few days look like it will be fairly warm, mid to upper 70's. probably 80's in easter Washington and the Oregon desert.

Camera(s) and laptop are packed, I'll be updating daily (if I'm still conscience) along the route.  Follow along at http://springrideii.wordpress.com

Busy Prep Day Today

Today was a busy day, but a pretty good day. No surprises which is always good.  I've taken today and tomorrow off to take care of last minute errands and pack for the trip Friday.  I rode into Seattle on the Ducati this morning to drop off my camera to be cleaned and checked. Man that Paul Smart bike rides nice! Photo-tronics called back around 3pm to say it was ready so I'll go back in tomorrow morning to pick it up. I went to the drug store to stock my medicine kit for the trip so that's done.  Michelle helped me get most of the laundry done that I need to pack so that's done. Although I didn't pack my tool kit, I did inventory everything I think I'll need from the main toolbox in the garage so throwing everything into a small canvas bag will be a cinch. The last of the special moisture wicking clothes I ordered arrived today as did the revised rear Ohlins shock from Dan Kyle at Kyle Racing Engines and the new ZTechnik touring windshield. My new Avon Storm AV55/56 tires arrived last week. The tires, shock and windshield will get installed tomorrow at Ride West.  Talk about cutting it close! but it seems to be coming together, one more day and I should be ready to roll!

Getting ready to roll

I'm leaving on a motorcycle trip the end the week with some friends. I used to tour with Michelle a few years ago when the kids were in camp, we would ride up to the San Juans and take joy in head of the line ferry privileges when there was a 2 hour wait in the height of summer. But that's not what this trip is about. I'm traveling without Michelle and with several friends who the phrase "enthusiasts" would be a gross understatement. Our trip is going to take us through 10 states in 9 days and over 3500 miles.

I've started a separate blog here and will be trying to post daily notes along the way.

The Next Generation

Today was a crazy day as far as motorcycling goes. I brought the BMW in for service and lets just say it didn't go as planned :-( It's sitll in the shop until tomorrow, but even then it wont be done. Dont ask, its a crappy story that's making me nuts.

On the good news side, my new Ducati arrived yesterday and was ready for me to pick up today. I was planning on getting it tomorrow but with the BMW laid up I wanted to get the Duc so I had it for riding this weekend. Here's Dave R frm Ducati Seattle personally delivering the bike for me.

Ready To Ride

On the way home I stopped at Bartell's to pick up some stuff, no sooner had I turn off the ignition and pulled my helmet then a younger man with his wife and daughter walking by stopped and turned towards to me to say "nice bike". This ride is going to be a lot of fun!

good karma today?

today's my birthday. woop dee do. but I started the day by re-reading my fav bday card from Pete. something about armpit noises and farting always makes me smile. on the ride in I listened to Harry Chapin's "Cats In The Cradle", which again made me think of Pete ... and Mike, and how on my 49th birthday today I'm turning into the dad in the song. and last when I pull into the parking lot, in the rain, I see a lone black ducati monster in the m/c spot. today is a good day.
